Kalki 2898 AD – A Revolutionary Tale Poised to Transform Indian Cinema

Do you think it is easy to show the hard work of four years in just a three-minute trailer and convincing the public to come to theatres is an easy mission? Kalki 2898 AD has done it.

However, if the lead actor of your film is India’s biggest pan-India star, why worry? Prabhas is here. Though, the film should not only be made but also run successfully. So, here introducing the most hyped trailer of Kalki 2898 AD as it has finally gone live on social media, and records are going to be shattered everywhere. There’s zero doubt about that.

How did I like the trailer? Many might not be happy with the answer, but the decision is yours.

Nag Ashwin is the kingmaker of Kalki 2898 AD. He might not get as much credit, but if the film is making so much news, he is the reason. When the characters of the film were introduced with such posters, it was clear that Nag Ashwin wasn’t going to compromise with the Kalki trailer.

I can confidently say, yes, 100% everyone is blown away after seeing the trailer. The promise has been fulfilled with world-class visual effects that you’ve never seen in any other Indian film.

The Kalki 2898 AD Trailer

Every frame of the trailer has been created in such a way that if you pause it, you’ll get new wallpaper for your screen. Just like buying a ticket for Christopher Nolan’s movies in Hollywood transports us to a new world as soon as we sit in the theater, similarly, Nag Ashwin has created his own unique world, that too in the future.

This work sounds easy to hear but is extremely impossible to do. The colors used in Kalki’s scenes are also communicating with you in code language—blue for good people, red for evil villain characters.

These small details, which 99% of people will totally ignore, have been worked on by Nag Ashwin with 99% effort. That’s why Kalki’s trailer is way above pass-fail levels. It’s easy to think about these scenes in your mind, but bringing them to the screen and making others believe in them required top-quality VFX.

Imagine if the same thing felt like a cartoon, you wouldn’t be applauding but cursing. Isn’t it true?

The makers of Kalki don’t want to sell their film solely on the strength of visuals. They haven’t overdone it.  Another X factor for Kalki, which many are ignoring, is emotions….

This trailer doesn’t just want to show, it wants to say a lot. Kalki’s fight, unlike Hollywood superhero movies that only show off technology, has a real-life angle. The fear of the entire world ending is there. Kalki seemed like a normal feel-good cinema so far, but actually, the film will have an Avengers Endgame-like feel. Imagine, all that was fictional, yet people cried like crazy in theaters. Here, Kalki will show what is already written in spiritual books—reality.

The star cast of Kalki

Kalki 2898 AD - Trailer

The Kalki team has so many surprises, and they truly know how to reveal them at the right time and place. You might have noticed this too. It’s certain that in my career, I’ve never seen any Bollywood director present Amitabh Sir in such a different way.

The strong and innovative presentation given by Nag Ashwin in the Kalki trailer is amazing. The out-of-syllabus type of intro scene is literally enough to excite cinema lovers about the film. Seeing Amitabh Sir Stand so strongly against Prabhas—no one could have imagined this even in their dreams.

Moreover, a level above is Kamal Haasan Sir’s introduction. Seeing him for the first time, it’s now clear why he was kept hidden till now. He has been made into a character that defines the word villain. His look-wise transformation was unexpected, plus his sudden appearance in the trailer.

Prabhas versus Kamal Haasan—Nag Ashwin has planned an even more exciting face-off than we could imagine. Deepika Padukone’s role is also different. Unlike in every film, this time she isn’t just the heroine. She is a character without whom Kalki’s story would be incomplete.

The small glimpse of the word ‘mother’ in the trailer makes me certain that Kalki’s entire story will depend on Deepika Padukone. Even Disha Patani’s scene in the trailer will be a big surprise for people because so far she has only been used in item songs.

Seeing her make an entry with a fight scene was full of satisfaction. It shows that Nag Ashwin knows how to respect his actors. He doesn’t just create showpieces but knows how to run the film with them.

Best things about the trailer

Undoubtedly, the best part about this trailer is Prabhas himself. He was shown in a comedy shade so far, but the trailer has changed everything. Finally, someone has used Prabhas correctly after Rajamouli Sir. I am so glad to see Prabhas slaying the character.

This particular shot in the trailer is pure goosebumps. Prabhas’s stardom will turn theaters into the world’s loudest stadium with this scene. A mastermind feel is coming from seeing Prabhas throughout the trailer.

He isn’t just the lead by name; his work is also being shown at that level. After a long time, I’m seeing that confidence in Prabhas’s performance that was completely missing in movies like Radhe Shyam and Saaho.

Look at Prabhas, without dialogues, just by looking into his eyes, it feels like he’s warning everyone who made fun of him. The biggest revenge is loading. The comeback that started with Salaar has been taken to the next level with Kalki’s trailer because this time Prabhas equals mass, not just mass but mass with class.

Kalki 2898 AD - Trailer New Movie

Okay, so I have been nonstop praising the trailer for so long, this question must be arising in your mind: what’s the problem with the trailer?

The problem is that Kalki could become too good of a film for which, honestly, the Indian cinema audience might not be 100% ready yet.

Baahubali worked because it was made with a desi flavor; no one would compare it to Hollywood. But Nag Ashwin has made the trailer for the film not in pan-India style but in pan-world style. They are targeting the international audience as well.

This is a double-edged sword. Superhero movies earn well in Hollywood, but their audience in India is also selective, isn’t it? So the side effect could be that the mass-level crowd you saw outside Baahubali theatres might not connect as much with Kalki.

But one thing that could change the entire game is the Adipurush factor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not downgrading Kalki. Even a worst film like Adipurush earned 400 crores because family audiences wanted to show that cinema to their kids to teach them something.

I’m getting the same vibes from Kalki’s trailer. By keeping the mythology angle a bit louder, the film can reach family audiences. But the problem is that from the trailer it feels like Nag Ashwin made the film to satisfy himself, not thinking about earning money.

Have A Look on Kalki 2898 AD

Look at the amazing scenes and how fantastic the actors look. And even after revealing so much, so much is still left. Understanding so many things at once is a very difficult thing for the normal audience, my friend. 90% of the trailer might go over people’s heads.

Just being a good film doesn’t make it a box office hit. The film must be understood by every person. Kalki 2898 AD seems like a very smart film, which will actually deliver the Hollywood-level cinema we want.

Tell me how many Hollywood movies do you go to theatres to watch with your mom and dad? That same problem will be the biggest challenge for Kalki. Still, the best thing is that Nag Ashwin has actors whom people really like in reality.

So who would refuse to see them in the theater?

You need to do one thing, just forget yourself for a second, and forget who you are. Whether you are a fan of Prabhas or a hater—put everything aside. Now, as a neutral audience, share your views on Kalki’s trailer, will the film just be a game changer, or will it also do wonders at the box office?

I am stuck, don’t know what to say anymore but I loved the trailer and wishing the best to the team for the release.
